Traditional Blacksmithing
Daaaadddddyyyy! PLEASEEEEE!(I didn't get her the train but I did get a handmade cypress car. She loved it and kept trying to roll it in the dirt/dust)
Walking the arts & crafts boothsI can hoola-hoop, too!
Making file (fee-lay) with Lionel Key, Jr.
(for those of you unfamiliar with file it's made from sassafras leaves and used as a thickening agent in Gumbo)
Mr. Key was kind enough to give us the finished product that Annie helped to make. Some of you may recognize him from Alton Brown's Feasting on Asphalt 2: The River Run. If your into gumbo you've got to try this file. A little goes a long way. Check out www.unclebillspices.com for more information on this unique tradition.
As with the last festival her eyes were closing as we were driving out of the parking lot.
Great Day! We miss you Daddy!

Germanfest
So we went to the Germanfest in Roberts Cove, Louisiana this morning but I forgot the camera. Though I don't have pictures to prove it we had lots of fun. Especially playing with the buckets of soap and bubble wands. After getting covered in soap Annie saw some other kids playing in a sandbox and immediately dove in. You can imagine the result. We finally were able to tear her away to ride the train but she then headed back to the bubbles. At this point we said lunchtime and she made a beeline to me saying "eat!". So we headed off to sample all of the local fare and then went to the museum to cool off. She then spent the rest of the time playing with her friend Joshua. They ran and danced to the music (including the chicken dance) and waved at the people going by on the hayrides. The kids loved to watch each other do something like fall down and each took turns trying to imitate the other. Annie at one point went up to Josh after he was playing this "falling down" game put her arms around him and asked "you ok?". Too Cute! When we were saying our goodbyes they gave each other hugs. On the way out we found a hose to wash her off and then headed for the car. As we drove off she fell sound asleep.
